ONE-ON-ONE WITH PAUL TRACY
Paul Tracy's need for speed doesn't stop when he leaves the 240 m.p.h. world of Champ Car racing

Most embarrassing moment of 2002: First turn at Mexico City race

Most embarrassing moment in racing: After leading a race in Phoenix (1993) by two full laps, with just 20 laps to go, PT crashed trying to pass a lapped car

Strangest request from a fan: "My brother is sick. Would you give me your Harley so I can sell it and pay for his doctor's bill?"

Coolest experiences of 2002: Hanging out more with some of the CART drivers.

Things I'd like to do in 2003: Win the 2003 Championship and lose 10 more pounds.

Best practical jokes of 2002: PT likes messing with people's heads more than playing practical jokes... like the time PT "wasn't aware" that he made contact with an opponent's rear tire on track until CART pointed out the tell-tale back marks on his nose cone. The following race, PT was on the starting grid directly behind Alex Tagliani. He decided to "mess with him" by purposely putting black marks on the nose cone PRIOR to the start of the race as a possible warning of things to come.

Nicknames: P.T., P. Tizzle, Nutsack, Grease, "the Thrill from West Hill"

Has been overheard saying (on the radio transmission): "If someone doesn't get that guy off the track (for a suspected pit violation in a race for which Tracy was penalized instead) I'll take him out myself."

Notable quotables of 2002: "I'm not driving one of those crapwagons." (reference to cars in another series)

Q: Tell us about this passion for Harley Davidsons. How and when did this evolve?

A: I first started riding dirt bikes. My Dad never wanted me to ride dirt bikes or motorcycles. When I started making my own money I bought my first Harley Davidson in 1991.

Q: Isn't a career in Champ Car (CART) enough of a speed fix?

A: I actually ride my bike and speedboat as a release from racing. No pressure. No push. I actually don't end up going that fast. I just enjoy it. It takes me away from thinking about racing. It's very therapeutic.

Q: Have you ever seen the movie Easy Rider?

A: Seen it. Good movie. It's pretty dated now. Now you have people from all walks of life enjoying bikes. It's not just for rebels. Although I guess the stereotypes still stick a bit.

Q: Where do you ride? Who do you ride with?

A: I like to ride at Bike Week in Daytona. I ride with Ron Simms who designed my custom bike. I ride in Las Vegas with friends.

Q: Does Players need to take out extra insurance because of your outside hobbies? Do you think they should?

A: No extra insurance. I'm not nearly as crazy as Pat Carpentier.

Q: Describe the moment in your Harley travels that was most perfect.

A: Sturgess, North Dakota Bike Rally was a really nice experience, as was riding the desert from Phoenix to L.A.

Q: Ever fantasize about being in a bike gang?

A: No, not my kind of thing.

Q: How does a kid from Scarborough adjust to the life of luxury? How do you stay grounded?

A: It's easy to stay grounded when you give all you've got to your job. That keeps you very grounded. None of this stuff should ever go to a driver's head. It's just the icing. And the icing is the first thing to go.

Q: Who has the better Harley collection? You or your buddy Jason Giambi?

A: Jason for sure! He's got five or six.

Q: What kind of things do you and Giambi do together? Metallica concerts? Daytona Bike Week?

A: We've never done bike week together. We hang out and party from time to time ... but that's top secret bad boy stuff.

Q: What's the fastest speed you hit on a bike, and where? In a car, and where?

 A: I've probably hit 193 m.p.h. with a street car and maybe 160 m.p.h. on a bike.

Q: What about the PlayStations? What other interests do you have to get your mind off your racing career?

A: I just got a pool table for my house. I play with friends from time to time. I have about 15 PlayStation games but among my favorites are Grand Turismo and Tony Hawk. To get away from it all I go cycling and sometimes out on Lake Mead on my speedboat. Karting is also something I do very often.
