Debra, Jarrett visit fans at the Sun
By JENNIFER BILL -- Toronto Sun
It was no holds barred for WWF fanatics yesterday. Superstar Debra
and Intercontinental Champ Jeff Jarrett made a stop at The Toronto Sun before
meeting their match at last night's WWF live event at SkyDome.
About 500 patient fanatics wound around the Sun building, waiting for hours
for an autograph or picture of the pair, who came in a white limousine and
chatted with their fans during the hour-long session.
After seeing all his fans, Jarrett said, "Toronto may be the wrestling
capital of the world."
Thirteen-year-old Josh Gal lined up with three friends at 8 a.m. for the 4
p.m. session, saying he was "here more to see Debra."
Other fans swore by Jeff Jarrett's showmanship and technique, saying how
great he and Debra work as partners -- she distracting and teasing the
opponent so Jeff can clobber him with his trademark guitar.
"She's a champ," fan Richard Muhlberger said of Debra. "She just comes out
with such class." Muhlberger was one of the first in line with friend Steve
Yamada, who brought a guitar for Jeff to sign.
Many fans brought along a poster of the duo from yesterday's Toronto Sun,
the print sponsor of the WWF in Toronto.
Avi Amar, 17, brought a black folding chair on which he collected seven WWF
autographs.
Debra, who drove in from an autograph session in Atlantic City, came
dressed casually in jeans, a black blazer with a swooping neckline and a
string of pearls. She said she was "so impressed with the fans here."
"We surely wouldn't have a job without them.
"I just wish I had some time for some shopping while I'm here. I heard
Toronto has a great MAC (cosmetics) store."
"Die-hard fans" Trisha, Donna, Andrea and Nicole, who became friends at
past autograph sessions, came from a different WWF signing in Scarborough and
were on their way to another. "I've only missed one (wrestler signing) in the
last four years," said Trisha, 16.
Four fans in line won tickets for the SkyDome event through a random draw.
WWF enjoys the second highest ratings, next to hockey, on TSN, although
suffering through controversy since wrestler Owen Hart's fatal fall during a
stunt May 23.
