Tuesday, November 23, 1999 Hossa's eager to return
Marian Hossa didn't skate yesterday, but he plans to be on the ice later this week. The Senators winger, who missed Saturday's 3-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils because of a concussion, didn't have any headaches and should be back in the lineup Thursday against the Atlanta Thrashers. Hossa will likely be back on the ice with the Senators today after working out in the gym since the concussion he suffered was only minor. That should give a boost to the club's sagging offence. "I feel good," said Hossa. "I didn't have any headaches today and I had some (Sunday), but they were much better than they were three days ago. "I should be ready to go, but I have to wait until I get clearance from the doctors before I say I can play for sure." Hossa wasn't the only one missing. Winger Magnus Arvedson was troubled by a sore groin, while defenceman Chris Phillips still has ankle problems. Both are expected to play against the Thrashers. BACK ON THE ICE: Defenceman Igor Kravchuk, who suffered a partial tear of his MCL Oct. 30 against Florida, skated for the first time yesterday. He went through a light workout with injured winger Daniel Alfredsson (knee) and trainer Kevin Wagner. Kravchuk isn't scheduled to return until mid-December and he was only on the ice for 20 minutes. Alfredsson resumed skating last week, but isn't sure when he'll take part in contact drills. "It feels good. Each day I just try to do a little bit more," said Alfredsson. Injured D Karel Rachunek, who will be out for an extended period with a torn MCL, has been returned to the IHL's Grand Rapids Griffins for his recovery. TRYING NEW EQUIPMENT: Winger Shawn McEachern used a visor yesterday in practice, but he's not sure he's going to take it into the game. "I'm really just trying it out," said McEachern. "I've never worn one before and I just wanted to see how it felt." Centre Shaun Van Allen, who took eight stitches near the eye after getting a stick in the face last Thursday against San Jose, wore a shield against the Devils on Saturday, but took it off yesterday.
