Wednesday, November 10, 1999 Ottawa adds vet Dollas
NEW YORK -- The Senators signed a veteran defenceman yesterday, but don't go out and buy an Ottawa jersey with McSorley on the back. Bobby Dollas joined the Senators' fold when he arrived in New York early this morning after signing a one-year deal with the club yesterday. The 34-year-old Montreal native brings parts of 14 seasons to the Senators. In 585 career NHL games, he has 38 goals and 126 points. "He'll bring us an element of experience back there (on defence)," said coach Jacques Martin. "He competes hard and he can play both right and left." The Senators are missing regulars Igor Kravchuk and Sami Salo to injury and were looking for defensive help on the free-agent market. The team made contact with veterans Marty McSorley and Gerald Diduck about their availability before signing Dollas. "He's real smart. He's got a lot of experience," said defenceman Jason York, who was Dollas' defensive partner in Anaheim and on the AHL championship team in 1993 with Adirondack. Dollas was a first-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 1983. The Senators become his sixth NHL team. He started this year with the IHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs, where he had two goals and six points in 13 games.
