A breakthrough season on the World Cup circuit two seasons ago saw Darin McBeath's world downhill ranking improve to 25th. However last season he was unable to crack the top-10 with his best result a 13th place finish at Kitzbuehel, Austria.
McBeath knows there's some pressure on the men's side to start posting consistently strong results. "I've always believed I could become the guy who could lead our Canadian team," said McBeath. "It's just nice to know other people in Canada and those with Alpine Canada also believe in me. "I want to be the go-to guy on our team for sure."
The men's speed event squad is basically reduced now to McBeath and veteran Edi Podivinsky. Two skiers were released and two others retired prior to the start of this season.
