SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- The Netherlands retained the Olympic men's field hockey title Saturday, defeating first-time finalist South Korea 8-7 in a clash decided on penalty strokes.
Netherlands prevailed 5-4 in the tiebreaker, required to break the deadlock for the first time in Olympic hockey's history, after the two teams were tied 3-3 during the regulation and extra time periods.

SYDNEY (CP) -- Spain blanked Canada 3-0 in men's field hockey play Saturday at the Olympics, consigning the Canadians to a 10th-place finish.
Canada finished with a 1-3-3 record, scoring its lone win over Poland in an earlier classification match.

Virjee's last game as head coach of the men's field hockey team will be Saturday (11 p.m. Friday EDT) when Canada plays Spain at the Sydney Games. Instead of battling for a medal, the best the Canadians can hope for is ninth spot.
