Despite battling injuries, surgery on his planting foot and financial difficulties, Jason Tunks feels he's got a shot at a medal in Sydney and can make up for a tough performance four years ago in Atlanta. He holds the Canadian record at 67.88 metres set in 1998 and he feels it'll take a 70 -metre throw to win Olympic gold.

  In 1996 Germany's Lare Reidel won at 69.43 metres. The world record is 74.08 set by an East German thrower in 1986. Last year, after a string of successful meets, Tunks fell ill with a bacterial infection while in Brazil. At the world championships he placed only 16th and didn't reach the final.

  In 1998, he was ranked sixth in the world. He won the bronze at the Commonwealth Games but was hampered by bone spur problems and didn't live up to his number-one billing at the Games.
