Canadian youth and junior champion Alexandra Lys didn't enter her first
Olympic trials in June with a lot of confidence she could make the Olympic
team. However she did make the cut as an alternate for the 4X100 freestyle
relay, and as the youngest team member at 15, she'll benefit from the
experience of going to an Olympics whether she actually races or not.
"I knew I had a shot at a spot on the relay team before the trials," said
Lys, a grade 10 high school student who started racing competitively in
grade three. "I was surprised and excited. It's a bit unreal it happened.
The Olympics are going to be my first international meet. I'm looking
forward to being with so many experienced athletes."
